Indications/Uses
Abdominal, bone & joint, skin & soft tissue, wound, renal, resp tract & genital infections, UTI, sepsis, meningitis, disseminated Lyme borreliosis, infections in immunocompromised patients. Peri-op prophylaxis of infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn > 12 yr, childn ≥50 kg & elderly 1-2 g daily. Severe infections 4 g daily. Neonate ≤14 days 20-50 mg/kg daily. Max: 50 mg/kg daily. Infant & childn 15 days-12 yr 20-80 mg/kg daily. Doses ≥50 mg/kg should be infused over at least 30 min given once daily.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Anaphylactic shock, hyperbilirubinaemic neonates. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI upset, haematological changes, skin reactions, anaphylactoid reactions, phlebitis (IV route).
